Welcome to Civil and Geological Engineering
What is Civil Engineering?Civil Engineering is the design, construction and management of the “built environment.” In other words, civil engineers maintain the infrastructure—such as bridges, buildings, highways and airports— to sustain modern society and protect the environment. Civil engineers are stewards of the environment, ensuring that infrastructure is planned and built in compatibility with it. They also mitigate the damage from natural disasters, which has become an extremely challenging task in today’s crowded, urbanized world. Civil engineering is a multidisciplinary profession, incorporating a number of scientific and engineering disciplines across three broad categories: Natural Earth Systems * Water resources and water treatment Buildings and roads * Pipelines Geographic information systems * Database technology Civil Engineers Career OpportunitiesCivil engineers are continually being challenged! Global trends, including increasing population and urbanization, result in problems surrounding infrastructure and the environment—and it is up to civil engineers to solve these problems. Civil Engineering graduates go on to work as professional engineers in Saskatchewan and beyond. Employers include: What is Geological Engineering?Geological Engineering is the application of engineering principles to natural materials and fluids such as soils, rocks, groundwater and petroleum. Geological Engineers Career OpportunitiesIn the last 5 years, over 70 students have graduated from the program. Most of our graduates are working as professional engineers in Canada, with many of them in Saskatchewan. |
