The UofS Advantage

USST

The Mechanical Engineering program at the University of Saskatchewan is a four year program that has been fully accredited by the Canadian Accreditation Engineering Board since the beginning of the accreditation program in 1965.  Students enter the department at the beginning of their second year, after completing their first year in the general engineering program.  Undergraduate enrolment in the department in the final three years totals approximately 300.
Mechanical Engineering professors have won a number of national and international awards, and continue to be successful in national and international grant competitions.  They have been recognized with awards for their teaching, research and service to the profession.  Recent examples include Prof. Richard Burton, who was named a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and Prof. Yang Shi, who received a teaching award from the University of Saskatchewan Students’ Union.

Mechanical Engineering undergraduate and graduate students have been very successful in a number of national competitions, such as the Canadian Engineering Competition and SAE competitions.  Mechanical engineering students have had a major involvement in the University of Saskatchewan Space Design Team (USST), which has finished in first place in the Spaceward Foundation's Elevator: 2010 Power Beaming Challenge in 2005,2006 and 2007. Students are active in many student organizations on campus, such as Engineers without Borders, and in Huskie Athletics.
