An Msc/PhD project is available on the subject of "Stope Hanging Wall Analysis for Dilution Prediction". The Department offers graduate programs for students with undergraduate backgrounds in Geological and Geotechnical Engineering as well as Mining and Civil Engineering.

Students who have successfully registered for an MSc or PhD degree will be expected to take the following graduate courses:

Rock Mechanics and Mine Design
Laboratory Methods in Rock Mechanics
Courses in geotechnical, hydrogeology and fluid flow analysis, offered by the department of Civil & Geological Engineering may also be required.

Dr. Doug Milne is a specialist in rock mechanics as applied to mining engineering structures. He had a wide range of work experience before starting at the University of Saskatchewan and has worked in both mining as well as geotechnical engineering applications for rock mechanics. His recent research interests include the stability of underground structures, the classification of rock masses and underground support.

Grad student requirements:
Excellent English and communication skills
Enthusiasm for working in field and lab environments
