Huff Chair in Innovative Engineering Education College of Engineering

February 18, 2010

The College of Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan invites applications for the privately endowed Huff Chair in the field of innovation in engineering education. This is a unique opportunity, as the Huff Chair will be focused on the measurement of excellence in engineering education and its subsequent implementation through innovation. The ambition of the College is to further improve an already highly regarded undergraduate program. With the assistance of both alumni and the private sector, the College has made significant investments in major projects linking the technical aspects of engineering education with leadership, professional integrity, entrepreneurship and communication. We are challenging our students to look beyond the technical dimension of their engineering studies, and to consider the broader economic and social context in which the engineering profession operates.

The Chair will lead the Engineering Innovative Education Initiative. The goal of (EI)2 is to achieve highly effective, evidence-based education for all engineering students by applying the latest advances in pedagogical research. It will also develop a new Engineering Scholars Program as one of the College’s strategic innovations. The Program’s distinctive curriculum and learning environment will stretch students’ intellectual, leadership and personal capacities, and foster a vibrant community of young scholars who will develop trans-disciplinary insights and global perspectives. The Program will aim to produce articulate, confident graduates distinguished by their intellectual rigor, their spirit of initiative, their resourcefulness and capacity for innovation, and by their commitment to make important contributions to our society.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD, be an internationally recognized scholar with a strong record of attracting competitively awarded research funding, and have experience or interest in developing interdisciplinary research and educational partnerships. The candidate should be eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer. Applications are welcome from candidates in all fields related to engineering education. The successful candidate will be appointed to a tenured or tenure-track position at the Full, Associate or Assistant Professor level. Joint appointments are a welcome possibility, and we expect the Chair to be active in collaboration and communication with a variety of academic colleagues.

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until a suitable candidate is found. The starting date is anticipated to be July 1, 2010.

The College of Engineering forms a dynamic team of scholars dedicated to challenging conventional assumptions and developing new paradigms of success for our students. For information about the College, please visit http://www.engr.usask.ca.
