College of Engineering H1N1 Pandemic Preparedness

Personal Preparedness

Individuals are responsible for practicing good infection prevention behaviours which include:
  • washing hands frequently
  • coughing and sneezing into elbow/sleeve rather than hand
  • visiting www.usask.ca/pandemic for information and updates on pandemic preparedness.
  • carrying personal hand sanitizers with at least 60% alcohol content for situations where hand washing is not possible

What to do if you have flu like symptoms

  • stay at home if sick with influenza-like illness (fever and cough)
  • minimize physical contact with others when returning from being away due to flu-like symptoms
  • fill out the “Student Declaration of Absence due to Influenza Like Illness (ILI) Form” and delivering it to your instructors. This form can be found at: http://www.usask.ca/uofs/notices/pandemic/Influenza_declaration.pdf

Since the H1N1 flu virus is unpredictable and still present in the community, good infection control behaviour coupled with immunization is the best way to protect yourself and others from becoming ill. This becomes especially important as more public gatherings will be occurring during the upcoming final exam period and as we head into the holiday season.

While the delivery of H1N1 vaccine continues to be an issue, the Saskatoon Health Region has not yet changed the dates for public immunization.  As such, it remains our understanding that Prairieland Park will be open to any member of the public as of November 16, while the University's immunization dates are November 24, 25 and 26 at Education Gym (9:00 am - 5:00 pm).  It is suggested that you keep a watch for announcements from the University as to any date changes.

Members of the Engineering community, It has been brought to my attention that we do have cases of people with Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) within our College community.  I am given to understand that one was positively diagnosed as being the H1N1 flu.
Regardless of the type of flu, if you are exhibiting flu-like symptoms (fever, cough), *PLEASE STAY HOME* until the symptoms have passed.  It is important that you follow this imperative out of consideration for your fellow citizens of our community and thus assist in mitigating the impact of the pandemic.  Your thoughtful consideration will be greatly appreciated. ...
