Daryl Kenneth (Doc) Seaman, who graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1948, has been posthumously inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Seaman was known for being among a group of businessmen who brought the Flames to Calgary in 1980. He was the driving force behind the Western Hockey League’s education program, and each year, the Daryl K. Seaman Trophy is awarded to the league’s scholastic player of the year.
Born in Rouleau, Saskatchewan, Seaman was also an important figure in the Canadian petroleum industry. He co-founded the Seaman Engineering and Drilling Company (later Bow Valley Industries). Among his many honours, Mr. Seaman was named an Officer of the Order of Canada (1993), and has received honorary Doctor of Laws degrees from both the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Calgary. He was inducted into the Saskatchewan Oil & Gas Hall of Fame in 1989, and the Canadian Oilmen’s Hall of Fame in 1997. In 1998, a donation from Mr. Seaman created the D K Seaman Chair in Professional and Technical Communication in the College of Engineering.
Daryl Kenneth Seaman passed away in 2009 at the age of 86.
