Who We Are
In May 2008, the Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure provided an initial $3 Million grant in funding for the expansion of the University of Saskatchewan Transportation Centre to a new Saskatchewan Centre of Excellence for Transportation and Infrastructure. The Saskatchewan Centre of Excellence for Transportation and Infrastructure was established as a strategic partnership between the Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure, the University of Saskatchewan, and private industry involved in innovative infrastructure solutions. Immediately after the public announcement, a Board of Advisors was formed to oversee the operations of the Centre of Excellence. On December 8, 2008, the Board of Advisors of the Saskatchewan Centre of Excellence met at the University of Saskatchewan for the inaugural meeting of the Board of Advisors.
The primary mandate of the Centre of Excellence is to provide world class infrastructure solutions that help Saskatchewan meet the increasing transportation and infrastructure needs of an aging infrastructure. A second mandate of the Centre of Excellence is to be internationally renowned for innovative transportation engineering, construction and transport logistics solutions.
The benefits to be realized from the Saskatchewan Centre of Excellence for Transportation and Infrastructure for the province will include:
- Establishing Saskatchewan as a world class research centre with the ability to access lead researchers and practitioners from around the world.
- Develop and implement more efficient transport infrastructure engineering design and construction systems that directly support Saskatchewan infrastructure renewal needs
- Develop and implement improved transport infrastructure management systems that explicitly and defensibly optimize value for money in infrastructure investments.
- Support private sector transportation technology firms, generating economic growth and export potential for Saskatchewan.
- Providing world class training to develop highly qualified practitioners in the Saskatchewan transportation sector.
- Develop and implement more sustainable infrastructure solutions that benefit the social, economic and environmental aspects of Saskatchewan infrastructure.
